MELAKA, 30 Julai (Bernama) -- Bekas Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Pendidikan Tan Sri Dr Johari Mat telah dilantik sebagai Pro-Canselor pertama Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).

Dr Johari, 64, menerima watikah pelantikannya daripada Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka yang juga Canselor UTeM, Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob di pejabat Yang Dipertua Negeri di Ayer Keroh hari ini.

Menurut kenyataan UTeM, majlis itu turut dihadiri Pengerusi Lembaga Pengarah UTeM, Datuk Dr Mohd Taib Hashim dan Naib Canselor UTem, Prof Dr Ahmad Yusoff Hassan.

Dr Johari anak kelahiran Kampung Kelemak, Alor Gajah memperolehi ijazah pertamanya dalam bidang Geografi dari Universiti Malaya sebelum melanjutkan pengajian dalam bidang Pentadbiran Awam serta Perancangan Bandar dan Wilayah di University of Southern California, Los Angeles.

Beliau dianugerahi Ijazah Kehormat Doktor Pendidikan oleh Universiti Malaya pada 2002 di atas sumbangannya kepada kemajuan pendidikan tinggi di Malaysia.

Beliau telah berkhidmat dalam Perkhidmatan Awam selama 33 tahun sejak 1968 dan pernah bertugas sebagai Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna serta Kementerian Perpaduan dan Pembangunan Masyarakat.

Jawatan lain yang pernah disandang beliau ialah sebagai Pengarah Institut Tadbiran Awam Negara.

Perkhidmatan Dr Johari di Kementerian Pendidikan meninggalkan beberapa impak yang signifikan terutamanya dari segi penggubalan dan kelulusan beberapa akta berkaitan dasar dan pembangunan pendidikan tinggi di Malaysia.

Antaranya ialah Akta Pendidikan Negara (Pindaan 1996), Akta Universiti dan Kolej Universiti (Pindaan 1997), Akta Majlis Pendidikan Tinggi Negara (1997) dan Akta Pendidikan Swasta (1997).

Sejak bersara daripada Perkhidmatan Awam, Dr Johari terlibat dengan beberapa syarikat awam dan persendirian yang mempunyai kepentingan dalam bidang pendidikan tinggi, perladangan, perancangan bandar dan wilayah, alam sekitar dan perundingan.

Antara jawatan yang disandang beliau ialah selaku Pengerusi United Plantations Berhad, Pengerusi Edurnonde Sdn Bhd, Pengerusi Airebus Sdn Bhd dan Presiden Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences.

CAMPUSES

• Industry Campus
UTeM’s Industry Campus is located at Taman Tasik Utama, Ayer Keroh and is in the vicinity of Melaka International Trade centre and the Chief Minister's Department. The university operated in 2001 by renting 68 units of shop houses from Metacorp Properties Sdn Bhd to house the administrative offices, lecture rooms, hostels, library and staff accommodation.
In 2002, the university rented 40 more shop houses to accommodate new laboratories for the faculties and to cater for additional administrative and student hostels.
In early 2003, additional spaces in the form of 11 shop houses were rented from Metacorp Properties Sdn Bhd and 119,200 square feets of space was rented from Cubic Electronics Sdn Bhd. Ayer Keroh. The university also rented a 17 storey apartment block (Greenview Meadows) in Bachang to meet the growing needs for student accommodation.
The Industry Campus provides the facilities and amenities which are comparable to that provided by other university universities.

• Main Campus
UTeM’s Main Campus earth works was completed on 25th June 2003. Since then, the construction of the buildings started. The main campus is constructed on a 725-acre site at Bukit Senandung I and II, Mukim Durian Tunggal in the district of Alor Gajah. On 25 January 2002, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad officiate the ground breaking ceremony. The campus is being constructed in two stages by a consortium comprising of Kumpulan Melaka Berhad, Putera Perdana & Cobrain (KKPC). The constructions are financed through deferred payment using the built-lease-transfer (BLT) and built-operate-transfer (BOT) approaches.
The first phase of the main campus development was completed in 2005. At present, there are two faculties which are operating over there namely; Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Faculty of Electronics and Computer Engineering. Other facilities which are available at the main campus include a cafeteria and sports complex. The main campus is expected to be fully constructed by the year 2010.

• City Campus
The City Campus is situated in the heart of Melaka Town. The City Campus underwent some renovations beginning on 1 Mac 2007 and the work completed on 10 July 2007. It comprises of three main buildings. On 11 July 2007 until 14 July 2007, four departments which were formerly operating from the Industry Campus, Ayer Keroh, Melaka had moved on to City Campus. The departments are as below:

BMFR is manufacturing engineering design course and one of the successful courses in UTeM Melaka, Malaysia. In this blog, we provide visitors with a lot of educational resources and information such as an online free libraries which contained a thousand book. We also provides information on cad workstations, advantages of cad, bobcad, solid modeling, manufacturing processes and systems, boyles gas law. Not enough with that, we also listed a free cad cam software for visitors to download for doing some autocad drafting.

BMFR also pronounced as RekaBentuk Pembuatan in Bahasa Malaysia. The main objective this blog was created:

• To help student especially BMFR's student to get a better information and knowledge;
• To provide visitors with informative resources at the highest possible;
• To make sure people understand what is Manufacturing Design after all;
• To give a thousand Free CAD Sofware, Free Antivirus, Free Software and many other things;
• To give an extra knowledge about Gaussian Elimination, Laplace Transform, MATLAB, Transfer Function, Thermo Fluid - Boyle's Law, Numerical Method, Matrix Equation, Process Manufacturing, Material Engineering, Manufacturing Processes, and Control System Engineering
• To give additional resources such Online Libraries, Online Teachers, and Online University Education
